Blue Ridge Parkway

Todd suggested this route today: http://www.motorcycleroads.us/roads/va_brp.html

I'm tied up the rest of the summer either with kids during the week with a busy schedule of fun family activities, or working/doing professional development stuff for Windover. :(

I guess it's something to look forward to........

Great lunch, pretty views on the scenic loop....Cedar Point in the distance and some sail boats. Now, we are back on Route 2 headed toward MI.

Detour

Route update: we decided to drive the circle tour route around the Marblehead penninsula. This is a pic of the view from the restaurant, Cleats. A local recommended the burgers, so we ordered up a couple with gouda cheese and waffle fries to share:)

Heading Home

11:30am at Grommy and Papa's.....the rain has stopped and we've planned our route:
Route 2 West to 280W to I-75, get off at Philips Ave and turn right, right again on Lewis Ave (north). Then, left on N. Custer, curving North onto to Plank and cruising to the Milan, MI area to jump on 23N for the last little leg of our journey. Home, here we come!

Good Morning

Hello, all! It's a bright and sunny morning in Uhrichsville, OH. We missed the free full breakfast at the hotel. (I thought it ended at 10am, when in fact it ended at 9am......bummer, since I could really use something to settle my stomach this morning. Todd didn't even emerge from the room to try breakfast......LOL) enough said.

Today: riding to Dover to check out a bakery and possibly "School House" Winery, then wiggling our way North to Parma.

ANOTHER power plant

This one uses coal.....we are in southeastern Ohio. Earlier blogs include pics of a nuclear power plant in northwestern ohio and wind turbines in the Allegheney mountains of Pennsylvania.

Last Leg

Pretty view of Tappan Lake and the sunset as we approach our final destination of the day: Uhrichsville, OH. It's been a long and wonderful day.

Tomorrow: heading North to Grommy and Papa's house in Parma, OH (for some home cookin' we hope) and a comfy night on the infamous memory foam mattress.

So We're a Little Lost

LOL 22 and 30 are the same for awhile, but not forever....thank goodness for blackberry's navigator and the Google Maps App! We are back on the right track and no one got upset about the routing error-hey, we are on the bike with a nice breeze and no traffic!

Traffic

Never, under any circumstance, try to drive through the city of Pittsburg. It's a cool town to visit; I've been there before. However, sitting on a motorcycle in bumper to bumper traffic on a 90+ degree Friday afternoon is simply hell on earth.

Why, you ask, did we route ourselves this way? Well, we mistakenly thought the historical route 30 would bypass the city itself. WRONG. And once you're in, you're in. Anyhow, we are out now on to scenic territory and slated for an overnight in Uhrichsville, OH. (For no other reason other than there's a Best Western there and it's on our way to SR 21 North, which is our preferred method of heading back towards Parma, OH.

Ah, as we are pulling into this one-light town of Clinton, PA, my anxiety is fading away and I am remembering our trip slogan: Wings and Bumps.

Made us think of Papa Warren

Check out this art! We visited some galleries, antique shops, did a wine tasting at 11AM, and walked around downtown Gettysburg this morning. Then, we headed out of town via US 30 West and stopped off for some fresh apples and "donut" peaches at a local farm-YUM! We have settled in at a Best Western with a pool in Breezewood, PA. On the agenda for this afternoon/evening: Italian for supper (in nearby Everett, PA), a dip in the pool, perhaps followed by another (maybe more thorough) wine tasting!

Breakfast

"The Most Famous Gettysburg Address Since Lincoln's"

Next up, David Wills House-where Lincoln spent the night and put the finishing touches on his Gettysburg Address in 1863. How much of that speech do YOU remember? (For my students: why did Lincoln repeat himself so many times during his address?)

Goodnight

We've arrived in Gettysburg and it is time to say goodnight. We rode about 350 miles today (50 more than my bottom wanted to!) And made it to the Colton Motel safe and sound. Tomorrow holds a gander at the battlefield, some historical shopping and a slower, more touristy ride back down the Lincoln Hwy at the historical sites. Over and out.
